My name is Rex Turner. I have been playing guitar for over 30 years. I am also a degreed electrical engineer. How I got here is a long story, so I'll try to keep it short.
I repaired stereo equipment for the largest audiophile store in Tulsa to earn money for college. While at the University of Oklahoma, I repaired all kind of stuff for students on campus...stereos, cassette decks, strobe lights, electric organs you name it. I became so well known for my business out of my dorm room that the campus photographers came around to put my picture in the annual. I even modified a Hammond B3 for one of the lawyer students on campus who played in a band. He had a connection with the entertainment company that brought musical groups to campus. His Hammond (that I modified) was used one night by Chicago Transit Authority. (This was back when Chicago was called Chicago Transit Authority.) Hey! I got free tickets out of the deal! Pretty cool. Of course, I played in a band during college too. It is pretty tough getting up the next morning for class after you played a gig the night before. But I did it! The grades were punished appropriately though.
Now days, I design consumer electronic products for a world wide consumer electronics company. My products have sold in the hundreds of thousands...perhaps over a million in all. I have lost count. My electrical background has come in mighty handy playing in the 7 rock bands I've been in over the years. No, none of these bands were famous. BUT, some people still seem to think I'm pretty good.
SO WHAT'S ALL THIS HAVE TO DO WITH YOU!!! Read on.
I have a question for you. Doesn't it seem like you always have a guitar cord that doesn't work or you need to buy a speaker cabinet, and can't raise the dough?. I have been there too! Well, I saved money by fixing guitar cords myself. I would build those speaker cabinets with my lips !! I have designed my own guitar sound effects, built PA systems & guitar amps from scratch. I can show you how, too. You don't have to be a genius to do this stuff. I can help by showing you step by step how to do some of this stuff. OK maybe people WILL think you are a genius. I can't help that.
Say you want to upgrade pickups on your Strat., well no problem, I did that just the other day. What HUGE difference THAT made. Over time I have shown many people how to do such things with great success, even people who thought they had NO CHANCE of making it work. We can show you how to build or repair stuff or improve your technique on your instrument.
